The Pali Canon is considered to be the most complete collection of Early Buddhist teachings of the Buddha and his disciples. It spans over 10,000 Suttas totaling approximately 20,000 pages. In The Buddha's Words provides an anthology which makes that accessible even for beginners, with Bhikkhu Bodhi providing introductions to each chapter clarifying the relevant concepts, terms and themes relevant to that chapter.

Ajahn Sumedho was the abbot of Amaravati Monastery in the UK from its consecration in 1984 until his retirement in 2010. He left a powerful legacy of Dhamma in the UK, which continues to flourish not only at Amaravati, but in many places, including here at The Buddhist Society. The Sound of Silence is a collection of teachings which range from instructions on meditation practice to teachings on "when you're an emotional wreck", wisdom which is invaluable for troubled times.
